Position Title: Project Manager

Primary Function – Overall company operations

Operations manager plans, directs and coordinates the operations of the organization. The operations manager is responsible for ensuring and improving the performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of departmental and organizational operations through the provision of effective methods and strategies. Position reports to to owner.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Coordination and Supervision - Coordinate, manage and monitor the workings of all projects within the organization.

  • Financial - Review customer and vendor reports and control inventory. Utilize this data to improve profitability. Prepare and control operational budgets and expenditures. Plan effective strategies to meet and exceed those budgets.

  • Best Practices & Training - Improve processes and policies in support of organizational goals. Formulate and implement departmental and organizational policies and procedures to maximize output. Provide training and support on new and existing systems and tools. Monitor adherence to rules, regulations and procedures.

  • Human Resources - Plan the use of human resources within the Retail Sales Team. Organize recruitment and placement of required staff. Establish organizational structures. Delegate tasks and accountabilities. Establish work schedules. Supervise staff. Monitor and evaluate performance.

  • Strategic Input - Liaison with top management. Assist in the development of strategic plans for operational activity. Implement and manage operational plans.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to increase revenue and operational improvements

  • Provide the leadership required for all assigned departments, ensuring company objectives are met in the areas of cost, customer service, quality, profitability and employee well-being

  • Analyze and improve current department & company practice and procedures, taking into consideration, profitability, safety guidelines and customer expectations.

  • Cover responsibilities of the owner when he is away or unavailable (As required); banking, customer & vendor escalations, odd pick-up and delivery from customers & vendors, customer/job site visits regarding product installation & issues

  • Evaluating and purchasing of new equipment, tools and operational supplies

  • Provide complete, accurate and timely information to support service excellence and operational efficiency.

Necessary Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in organizational effectiveness and operations management

  • Cohesive knowledge of residential construction

  • Strong experience in residential project management

  • Knowledge of business and management principles and practices

  • Knowledge of human resource principles and practices

  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices

  • Strong working knowledge in Microsoft Office, E-Mail and advanced Excel

Position Title: Lead Carpenter

 

Job Summary

This position is responsible for directing all construction activity at the job site.  Provides direction to other carpenters and subcontractors to ensure that the project is completed according to the time schedule and within budget. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction and making sure all administrative requirements are met.  

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Oversees all carpentry and other sub-contractor work at assigned project or job site.  Reviews the work and ensures that work quality is in line with company expectations.  In cases where work quality is not up to standard, requests re-work and re-inspects at completion.  

  • Directs sub-contractors regarding proper placement of plumbing, electrical or HVAC

  • Pulls all required permits and ensures that permits are prominently displayed as required.  Arranges with building inspectors to review work at correct times to ensure that all work is completed in accordance with established building codes.

  • Performs all renovation work including demolition, waste disposal, excavation, framing, dry walling, caulking, flooring, millwork, and painting.  Directs the activities of other carpenters and helpers to ensure that all work is being completed according to plans.

  • Reviews blueprints and architectural drawings to understand scope and details associated with the project. Performs layout functions to establish proper locations for walls, etc.  Communicates layout to all carpenters and other trades as necessary.

  • Liaises with plumbing and electrical trades to ensure that they have completed work prior to closing walls, and applying finishing carpentry.  Interacts with painters, or other installation professionals (granite, etc) when job is at proper stages of completion.  

  • Oversees demolition work.  Ensures all material is removed from the job site / project and ensures a clean working environment.  May arrange for dumpsters and removal.

  • Performs carpentry work (framing and /or finishing) as necessary to assist others in completion of the tasks and the project.

  • Communicates with supervisor all requests for changes.  Documents all change requests and determines extra time and material that is required to facilitate the change.

  • Orders material required for the job, and ensures that all material is delivered to the job site to ensure that worker productivity is maintained.  Reviews requirements and ensures all necessary tools are brought to the job site.

  • Communicates with customers regarding schedules, access to the job site, and provides answers to customer inquiries.

  • Provides direction to carpentry staff.  Ensures that staff is punctual and starts/ends work on time.  Keeps breaks to established time frames.  

  • Follows project schedule and identifies any issues that will affect the project from a time or budget perspective.  Brings all issues to the attention of the Project Manager.

  • Ensures all employees are equipped with the appropriate personal safety equipment including hard hats (when needed), shoes, etc.    Ensures that the work area is kept neat and clean and is a safe working environment.

 

 

Required Qualifications / Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent

  • Certificate of Qualification while not required is a plus

  • Knowledge of construction techniques and principles for carpentry trade, dry walling, basic plumbing,  and basic electrical

  • 10 years of hands on experience in construction and/or renovation.

  • Proficient in layout, and the more difficult carpentry tasks – hanging doors, trim work, drill and set door hardware, stairs, rafters, etc.

  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and architectural drawings

  • Understanding and knowledge of local building codes.

  • Valid Driver’s License and a good driving record

  • Must have own truck
